Student enrolments in Business & Management studies 2021/22 – our latest report

This year’s edition of the Chartered ABS’ annual report on student enrolments by domicile looks at the academic year 2021/22. Our analysis presents a number of significant changes in enrolment figures, reflecting equally significant policy changes.
As Brexit-related changes to student fee policies and visa arrangements take effect, a predictably sizeable drop in enrolments from Europe is observed. On a more positive note, the reinstatement of the post-study work visa at the same time stimulated a surge in enrolments from further abroad, resulting in a vastly different and increasingly diversified student demography benefiting from our world class business education.
The academic year 2021/22 recorded a 12% increase in Business and Management enrolments across all domiciles, which is significantly higher than the average increase across all subjects of 4%. Further analysis reveals that this increase was driven largely by postgraduate enrolments, which saw a year-on-year increase of 23%, along with a number of other compelling trends.
Included in this year’s report for the first time is a section which looks exclusively at first year enrolments; this is intended to help better anticipate changing trends in the student population in the coming years. In addition, this is also the first edition where we have included data from HESA’s Student Alternative Record, which includes several Chartered ABS members, and a section on UCAS acceptance data, which provides a forward view towards trends in undergraduate enrolments in the years to follow.
