The 2022 Chartered ABS Fellows announced

We are delighted to announce five new Fellows of the Chartered Association of Business Schools. Professor David Sweeney CBE, Adam Harper, Janine Ellis, Professor Robert Blackburn and Anne Kiem OBE have all received the award in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the Chartered ABS’s mission over the course of several years.

The Fellows were recognised at the Chartered ABS Annual Conference on 7 November 2022.

Professor David Sweeney CBE, University of Birmingham

Having recently stepped down as the Chair of Research England, David has supported the Chartered ABS in a number of ways throughout the years, including speaking at many of our conferences.

He is hugely supportive of the sector, and has contributed on a range of issues, including the REF, funding opportunities, multidisciplinary work and research impact.

He recently joined Birmingham University as Professor of Practice in Research Policy.

Adam Harper, AAT

Adam oversaw the launch of our Certified Management & Business Educator (CMBE) scheme as the inaugural Chair of the CMBE Professional Standards Board. His extensive experience in professional standards helped to shape the way the scheme is delivered, with quality assurance embedded. 1 in 20 business and management academics in UK business schools now hold the CMBE.

Adam has given considerable time to the Chartered ABS, and we have benefitted hugely from his expertise over the years.

Adam is the Director of Professional Standards and Policy at AAT.

Janine Ellis, University of Manchester

Janine has contributed extensively to the mission of the Chartered ABS as a member of the Professional Managers’ Committee for the last five year, two of which she spent in the role of Chair.

She hosted the 2020 Professional Managers’ Conference – the only in-person conference we hosted in 2020 – and led the Professional Manager community meetings throughout Covid-19.

For many years, Janine was Head of School Administration at Alliance Manchester Business School, and has recently moved on to become Head of Operations at the School of Health Sciences at Manchester; however, she continues to retain involvement in the work of the Professional Managers’ Committee.

Professor Robert Blackburn, University of Liverpool

Robert has been involved in a number of Chartered ABS initiatives in recent years. He was a founding member of the Small Business Charter Management Board, has contributed to a number of cohorts undertaking the Development Programme for Directors of Research (DPDoR), and has spoken at many of our conferences, particularly our Research and Annual conferences.

He served on the REF 2014 panel before taking on the role of panel Chair for REF 2021.

Robert is Professor of Entrepreneurship at the University of Liverpool Management School.

Anne Kiem OBE, Chartered Association of Business Schools

Anne has demonstrated exceptional dedication to the business school community, serving as the Chief Executive for the last eight years.

Anne has led the Chartered ABS to a higher profile, with the impact she has created both within the membership and externally. She has overseen a wide range of Chartered ABS initiatives over the years, including the Academic Journal Guide, the CMBE, the launch of the Small Business Charter, and most recently, the Help to Grow: Management Course.

Anne’s legacy at the Chartered ABS will be long-lasting, and we have all greatly benefited from her knowledge, expertise and input.
