We are finalists at the Association Excellence Awards 2023!

The Chartered ABS is proud to announce that we have been shortlisted as finalists for the Association Excellence Awards 2023 in the following categories:

• Best Association Team

• UK Association of the Year (up to 1000 members)

These national awards celebrate the vital work that associations, trade bodies, professional organisations and chartered institutes do for and on behalf of their members to ensure their voices are heard and their causes are championed.

So, why were we shortlisted?

Best Association Team

In a period of restricted funding for business schools, the Chartered ABS team has been successful in advancing its aims of supporting and championing business schools for the benefit of business and society.

The team oversees the government’s Help to Grow: Management Course (HTG:M) delivered by members of the Chartered ABS that hold the Small Business Charter. For our growing network of 3,846 course alumni, we have delivered a new ‘Alumni Hub’, offering resources, partnerships, and networking opportunities for ongoing learning. To further celebrate the value proposition of the Small Business Charter, we launched the SBC Excellence Awards. These awards provide the opportunity for business schools that hold the SBC accreditation to showcase specialist activity that delivers sustainable impact and legacy.

For the core Chartered ABS membership of staff within UK business schools, we have diversified our research activity to feed into our lobbying work. We achieved a record number of attendees at our annual events and worked together to launch a new development programme for our executive education community.

UK Association of the Year (up to 1000 members)

Over the past year, the Chartered ABS have successfully shifted the conversation in government, having been a lead partner in a successful bid for £5m Research England funding for a project to develop the business awareness of doctoral and early career researchers, and improve the exchange of expertise between universities and industry.

Furthermore, we secured the continuation of the Help to Grow: Management programme funding, against a background of government cuts. Research by Ipsos, highlights the impact the course has had on UK businesses (e.g. two thirds felt their leadership and management skills improved).

Following a change in leadership after our CEO of 7 years left post, we implemented an interim leadership team to ensure the continuation and expansion of our content production and events calendar. Alongside this change in leadership, we have doubled in size of personnel this year, offering us a much greater capacity to advance the aims of the association.

The Chartered ABS is delighted to have been successfully shortlisted in both categories and we look forward to finding out the final results of the awards this November.
